I was able to reverse the thrust washer and the carrier loosened right up. Found more water, contaminated grease and some rust on the gear teeth. Now, on into the depths...

    A little more info, normally I would find a metal pipe of the appropriate diameter I fit inside the gear housing and notch it to fit the bearing carrier slots. I’m just wondering if there is a better way to unscrew the carrier without buying the actual tool? Thx

    1966 Evinrude 5HP coils

    The coil fits properly to the mounts but the adjustment slot is too short to allow the coil to slide back from the flywheel. I think I will try to file the adjustment slot longer. What should the flywheel to coil gap be?

    Hi, I am trying to resurrect the engine listed above and am having trouble with the new coils. The heel / pickup on the new coils sticks out about 1/8” farther than the old coils and I have to squeeze the coils together with a c-clamp to even get the flywheel on.
