Crusader 335,7.4 MK IV Oil capacity

I wish I got 6 qts ;-) That with the filter is about all, I don't know why I get 4 unless my dipsticks are wrong. Maybe someone could measure the line from the bottom of the dipstick to the full line, it could be that I am not putting enough oil in. My pump tube is stiff, and comes to hard...

Crusader 335,7.4 MK IV Oil capacity

Thanks for the input Mako, but the diagram here shows the fitting is going to be above the remaining oil. I'm sure that being the case it won't suck anything but air through the valve cover vents.I wonder if anyone else does oil analysis on these? I know if it were my car I would be worried.

Crusader 335,7.4 MK IV Oil capacity

I have recently been talking to another Silverton owner re his engine oil, and his is a couple years older than mine (mine 89). He says his oil pan holds 7 qts. The dipstick on both of my engines reads full at 4 qts. Could I have wrong dipsticks? What should the pans hold????

    Oil temp Problems?

Silverton 34C, heavy boat, needs all of big block torque. I recently replaced the OEM engines from this '89 boat, with rebuilds from Promar. A shout out to them, very happy with the results and the professional build. (Disclaimer: not affiliated in any way) I had originally planned on doing a...

    34C Speeds, Props, etc.

(1989 Boat) After rebuilding the 454s, I'm just getting them broken in. Made a quick run up to 3300 rpms, and managed to get the boat on plane at 18-19 kts. Anyone know what sort of speeds/rpms I should expect? The props are 18X14 3-blade and not sure if they are original, or correct??? I'm...

    BBC Timing Question

I've been trying to find a definitive answer, perhaps there isn't one. My Crusader manual has curves for the Mk IV engine, and it lumps it in with the small block, running up to as high as 35 at around 4000 rpm. On forums folks seem to be saying the big block doesn't want that much advance...

    Crusader/Barr exhaust pieces

After opening the boxes with the various pretty cast iron pieces, I noticed a sheet with the ominous warning that "All gasket surfaces must be filed prior to installation. These surfaces need to be free of all nicks, burrs, and paint. This is required for ALL manifolds, elbows and risers"...

    Distributor question

Brand new MK IV 454s, new cooling top to bottom, new edelbrock manifolds/carbs. Finally the last thing is distributors. Any suggestions which would be best?

    1989 MK IV Silverton Engines

After 2600+ hours, the engines finally quit. They were done, unable to exceed 3100 rpm, and finally overheating. I've bought two long blocks from ProMar, arriving next week. Also the entire cooling system was shot, the cast iron pieces no longer usable. So, a total new cooling system, and...
