    98' 3.0 merc inline 4 timing problem

    I'm following the procedure for setting the timing, but get the same results with wht wires jumped or not. When i rev engine, timing only advances to 8 degrees. Whatcha think??

    merc 3.0 questions/issues.........

    I picked up a 98 searay 175 fixer-upper with a 1985 3.0 inline 4 merc. On the merc carb air breather the timing spec is 1 degree btdc and the firing order is 1-4-3-2. On the merc valve cover the firing order is 1-3-4-2. What's up. Also, when i ck / set the timing at 1 btdc it only goes to 8 btdc...
