73 Evinrude 25 hp Spark Problem

Thank you but yeah, I’ve had them disconnected from the start. I’ve got to start over from the beginning I guess. I’m going to try another flywheel on the outside chance the magnets are not strong enough.

73 Evinrude 25 hp Spark Problem

and one more thing Droid. 53 years ago I was on the South China Sea in the fireroom on the Carrier, USS America. It doesn't seem like that long ago.... and as for the flywheel. Since the plugs were out I was able to set the flywheel in place and just snug it down with the nut, then use a 1/2...

73 Evinrude 25 hp Spark Problem

Thanks EdChris177. I made no changes to the spark plugs. I was changing the gap on the points. That increases or decreases dwell time and alters not only spark quality but also advances and retards timing slightly.

73 Evinrude 25 hp Spark Problem

That's a good point Droid. I experienced a phenolic? (type) insulator on the Mercury points system that did that. It was cracked in a location out of sight and took a while to figure out. I hadn't thought of the bushing doing the same thing. A high voltage spike can certainly find a leak...

73 Evinrude 25 hp Spark Problem

Thanks for trying to help. Points are simply a switch. I removed them, cleaned them and removed dirt, irregularities, and resistance verifying they are square with each other. Then I checked them for shorting and remounted them. Same with the condensers. I checked them for leakage and...

73 Evinrude 25 hp Spark Problem

I have a 1973 25352A and I can't get good spark. Things I've tried: New Sierra driver coil, New Sierra 2ndary coils, Resistance checked and in spec) new plug wires-continuity, cleaned and regapped the points, tried at .017, .018 .019 .020 .021 and .022 gap. Positioned drive coil armature...

    Mercury 9.9 starting issues

If the float "floats" in a fluid, it's typically good and no need to change it. Shake it and if it's empty, its probably fine. If it has any fluid inside, trash it. The following is basic and I don't want to insult you but maybe a refresher would help. Fuel comes into the carb float bowl from...

    Welch Plug size and source?

Pennies would be even better if they were still copper!

    Welch Plug size and source?

I've found Grangers, McMaster-Carr (https://www.mcmaster.com/) and other Industrial Distributers have Welch Plugs If you know what size you need. Also Small Engine Service and sales places like (https://jackssmallengines.com/) have them but they often stock them only by part number, not...

89 Merc 15HP Gas, Spark, Compression = No start

The key had broken off by a previous owner. I removed the flywheel and replaced it with another 1/8" key earlier. Then I put a timing light on it and it reads steady at 10 Degrees BTDC. The Manual says the timing is set and determined by the switch box. Wouldn't the steady reading at 10...

89 Merc 15HP Gas, Spark, Compression = No start

If it sets a while and I pump up the fuel bulb, give it a crank and it tries to start. "Once" as in no matter what I do after it will not start and run. Plugs are wet, spark jumps the required 7/16" with the spark tester, and bright blue/white with the plugs just grounded, Compression 122/125...

    Ficht ID

Hey revenge22, I bought this to cannibalize and sell so I didn't get the Cowl/Decals, or EMM but I do have the injectors. I'll see what I can find out with them. There are some digital matrix stamped numbers on the machining pads of the block but I think those are just factory traceability...

    Ficht ID

I need some help trying to ID a motor before disassembly. I have a Ficht V6 (motor only) but I do not know which one it is. Without the ID tag from the transom bracket, swivel bracket, etc, is there a way that I'm not seeing? I'm thinking like a soft plug or something like the smaller motors...
