The unit comes in 4 parts: The bottom is the pump, then the reservoir, then the electric motor...

You have a grinder or Dremel? Square off the edges and reinstall.
Some dogs, you can flip them around and have a good mating surface.

When shifting(from now on) put it firmly into gear, slow will wear down the edges.

Saw the exhaust cover/sillycone. If the motors got any amount of time running and been in salt water the mating surfaces can deteriorate and not seal well. In some cases it's so bad it never seals right.

You'll need a special DVA or Peak Reading Volt Meter for some of the tests.

Start your own thread: always include Year HP model# serial# if known and what's happening and ANY info (no mater how trivial) .
It might sound the same but something little can help ID the problem.
The FILL? T@T is on the side of the base of the reservoir. Should be a knurled knob.
Fill when the motor is all the way down.
Now, if the T@T leaks down the problem is in the very bottom of the reservoir. There's 2 VERRRRRY tiny rubber seals that have gone bad and need replacing.

Like I had said earlier, these 3cyl, 1 carb weren't the best engineered out there.
One problem was the top cylinder lacked lubrication and would score.
One thing you might add a couple ounces of oil more to the fuel.
