    92' 70hp johnson water pump shifting rod disconnect?

    Trying to change the water pump. I know I need to somehow disconnect the shifting rod, and i see where it connects. Question is, do I have to take off the carburators to be able to disconnect it? I don't see any way to get it apart. Seems like there should be a simpler way, that I'm not seeing...
