I may have asked this already but what does a 1969 ish Merc 500 weigh? As I understand it a 650 comes in at around 225Lbs? What about the 70 ish Merc 800? Thanks
Hi, For years I have kept my 68 650 set up and it does what is supposed to do. I am working a 69 650 and I use the giant Mercury service manual and an aftermarket manual. One thing I have never understood and need clarification on is this. FYI this lightening energizer ignition. The 68 and 69...
Hi, I have a 1968 650 and 2 69 650s. One of the 69s and the 68 have this on the top of the lower unit After running if you tilt the motor water drips out of it Should this even be there?? As I say two of the motors have it and one does not
As for the 69sd they are a bit different. The hole...
Is there any reason to pick a Merc 500 over a Merc 650 ? We are talking 68 to 71 or up to 72 on the 500. I realize the 650 is slightly more powerful but doesn't it turn a larger gear train? On the other hand the 500 is lighter and revs higher and better on fuel. Boat is between 1000 and 1500...

The boast is a 1964 Crestliner Crest Rider., VERY light. Was my grandfathers and then my dads. Have had for 25 years. Originally had a 1966 50HP Mercury but sold it for a 1968 650. Have had that for 15 years then grabbed a 1969 650. Point being the boat has not been in the water for 6...
Hi, As I understand it 1968 and 1969 Mercury 650 motors are pretty much the same. I also under stood 1970 and 1971 are the same . Apparently the only difference between the years is that in 1970, 71 they used a 2.3 to 1 gear ratio v 2.1 to 1 in 68,69? Is this correct.? Is there any reason to use...
