    2009 8.1 Gi-Jf cooling problem, need help

    The risers and manifolds were replaced in '23. The engine ran fine after the first impeller was replaced and we have not run aground since. I don't believe they could be blocked, but maybe. I plan to reverse flush the cooling hoses when it gets warmer, it's 19 degrees F right now.

    Great quote! I have used AF for winterizing for almost 50 years, 38 in VT, I think I'll stick with that for now! :) For this year I will pull the hoses and plugs and use the air gun to get the rest of the water out. Unfortunately I'll still have to deal with the lack of the heated raw water...

    Draining it has been the problem. It has the hose with the blue cap, but it's an earlier model without the quick drain feature. I am not sure which of the 2 hoses coming out of the impeller pump need to be disconnected. Or both? In the past I've always used the muffs and then entered the AF...

    Before installing the new impeller after it was dry I noticed a lot of black deposits inside the housing. Most of it was loose so I just scraped it off. It didn't appear to be rubber but it probably was, from black rubber blades of the impeller. The new impeller probably didn't run long enough...

This year, using the muffs, I couldn't get water to flow through the system- no water exiting behind the outdrive or out the ports above the props. I installed a new impeller.
