    Will an '84-90 6/8 hp swivel bracket fit on '80-83 4.5/7.5 motor?

    My '81 4.5 doesn't have a tilt lock, only the shallow water drive. The '84-90 6/8 hp has a tilt lock but will the the swivel bracket fit on my '81 4.5?

    1981 J5 compression test results.

    Seems to be down on power, idle fine just soft at WOT. Both cylinders were about 90 psi, shot some oil in and the top came up to 120 and the bottom 110. Time for a re-build?

    Stop switch/lanyard retro-fit to '81 J5?

    I have an '81 J5RCIC and want to replace the existing kill switch with a safety lanyard type switch. Looking through the parts diagrams I see that 1987 was the first year for these, any idea if the new switch would fit? Any other solution? Aftermarket?

    Any Johnson 4, 4.5, 5 HP gurus here?

    Did some searching but didn't find any real answers. Trying to figure out what years Johnson made 4-5 hp, 2 cylinder, 2 strokes with fwd/rev and internal tanks? Searching the parts listings looks like they had only fwd/neutral in the 90's and 00's? Any info much appreciated.
