    I have rebuilt the carbs, new plugs and swapped the leaky VRO for a standard fuel pump on my 87 Johnson 40. It now runs great but it takes for ever to start. It will crank & crank, finally start sputtering a little and then run. You can turn it off and it will fire back up first crank. Idles...

    I would do a search through the forum but I am afraid I might not get my exact case/issue. I have a 1987 Johnson J40ELCUD 40 hp. I am not the original owner. The VRO (pn 5007421) has been only used as a fuel pump and now it has started to leak. The thought of buying a $400 VRO is not...
