When I pulled the lower unit off my Mercury Classic Fifty the exhaust tube seal was installed with the plastic tabs of the base plate facing down into the lower unit (like picture A). It seamed to fit properly and allowed the plastic base plate to sit flush against the rubber seal. However...
When I tried that last time I could not get the lower unit back on. The splines must’ve been slightly misaligned and it would not go on. And I wasn’t able to rotate the shaft slightly due to it being in neutral. Is there a trick?
