    85 HP Force 1985 (856F5A)

Don't ask me how, but it seems to run smooth. I ordered the DVA adapter from Amazon. It won't get here until after the 4th of July. Does it make more sense to start at the top and work down when testing ( stator, trigger, pack, coil) or the other way around? I'm probably overthinking the...

Decided to bite the bullet and buy a DVA adapter. I figure i have this 85hp and i have a 40hp force on my pontoon boat. I'm sure there will come another time when I will need it. Can' do the job without the proper tools.

Finally got a chance to swap packs. When swapped, it won't even try to start. Put it back to original and it starts right up even though I only have spark on cylinder 2. I don't get it, I wouldn't think it would start let alone sound good... Not sure what to try next. Nobody I know has a DVA...

Tested the stator. Resistance from blue to yellow wires (2 places) both check right around 350 ohms (where it should be). Blue to ground and yellow to ground (2 places) all check right around 90 ohms (should be an open circuit). Have not been able to swap packs, should be able to try that...

It's a 3 cylinder. Testing the spark with a cheap HF spark tester and a timing light. I will swap the packs first to see what happens. Asking around to my friends to see if anyone has a DVA . No luck so far. I may have to either buy one or build one. From what I see it shouldn't be too...

Happy summer everybody!! Finally got back working on the motor. Haven't done a thing to it other than put fresh gas and a fully charged battery in it. Starts right up, but I am not getting spark on number 1 AND number 3. I'm beginning to wonder if this motor is heavy enough to sink to the...

Well, the nice weather has ended with no change in sight. Pulled the boat out of the water, winterized it and just have to cover it for the winter. All plans are now on hold till spring. I think it may be the pack. I'll revisit in the spring.

OK, before I blow the whole motor up swapping the packs, it looks like all I would have to do is change the quick disconnects. It looks like there are 2 on each side of the motor. I have pictures but cannot figure out how to post them yet. Says they are too large Thanks

Got the coil from Amazon. Put it on and I still do not get spark to number 1. Now I have to think the CD Module is bad. Any way to check? I suppose I could swap out the wiring to see if that does anything. Not ready to spend close to $500 for a new one if that is not the issue.

Called today to follow up. They are out of stock and will not have them for at least a couple of months. Guess I'll order one from Amazon.

They went up in price a little but I bought three of them. Don't know if it's overkill but I figured I would play it safe. Do you happen to know the diameter of the spark plug wire? I forgot to ask when I called them and I probably need that to buy the boots.
