Recommended Coolent for 7.4 TBi FWC

Yes, HE tubes were rodded and inspected. Bubbles no longer issue. Plenty of water flow. Coolant not mixed, always used Prestone 50/50. Thanks for your reply.

    Overheating issues

We're going to take a run to get temp data at 2500 and 3500. Last resort I'm thinking of ordering a new heat exchanger. Nightmare would be pulling heads though there is no sign of water in oil. BTW, I've had four oil sample analyses since re-power. Most recent showed elevated bronze and higher...

    Overheating issues

I wasn't getting testy. Both me and my mech are very frustrated and seeking any input towards something we may have missed or are not aware of. I appreciate your interest and knowledge. I'm the middleman! I'm relaying this stuff back and forth.

Re: Clear hose. Mech. believes thee clear cap on strainer gives that info. Wants to try a clear hose "into a clear cylinder with "headspace"

    Overheating issues

The sherwood pump was overhauled using the major repair kit. Shafts were ok so not replaced, just cam, bearings, seals, wear plate. My mechanic has over 50 years experience in marine maintenance after his tour in USCG as "Engineman". Is a member of ABYC.

    Overheating issues

Have not done a clear hose test. Raw water pumps were rebuilt at repower in 2023. Only 100 hours on them. Will try to get data at 2500 and 3K.

    Overheating issues

Just got off the phone with my mechanic. Heres the correct info. Raw water flow was 4 gal in15 sec @2000. IR Temps: Testing underway @ 2200. Raw water in to oil cooler 85 deg (sea water temp). Out to exhanger @125. Out @ 145 to exhaust manifold. Fresh water into exchanger @ 183 deg @ t-stat hsg...

    Overheating issues

Hello Mako, been distracted. I never answered your question. Long blocks new in 2023, all accessories inspected, tested, cleaned/replaced as needed. Heat exchangers pulled again inspected, no obstructions. Raw water systempressure tested for leaks. Raw water flow checked. 5 gal, 10 seconds @...

    Overheating issues

Steady stream of water coming through intake and strainer, no air. Elbows and risers were new in 2023. Will have to talk to mechanic about what he actually did to strainers. I know he replaced gasket.

I believe so, but this was resolved with new gasket.

Thank you! We had bubbles in strainer and opened it up, cleaned and sealed and still overheats.

    Crusader 1996 454XLT Hot start problems (ECUs issue?}

Forgot to mention, my engines are 454XL TBis, 1993 and 1994. Only one had the problem (starboard, Reverse rotation) We are convinced it was a heat related/vapor lock issue. In our case, was never able to restart after extended cool down without priming pump.
