Well folks… I put a 500 ml container of SeaFoam in the tank last evening and went out three times today and the boat worked really well and also started really easily. I am not sure if the Seaform helped but the symptoms seemed to disappear… hopefully for good! I have the groups suggestions if...
As info… during service last fall I was invoiced for:
Oil filter
Engine oil
Stern drive oil
Fuel filter
Fuel pressure regulator
Electronic fuel pump assembly
So one would think fuel system issues would not be the problem unless the new fuel pump or regulator are faulty
Makomark do you think that a faulty coil could cause the symptoms I mentioned in my post. The replies to my post on here mention the cause likely to be a fuel issue
I can get the serial number but it is a 2002 Campion Alante with a 350 MAG MPI Mercruiser with 725 hours. Had a new fuel pump installed last fall and is serviced professionally each fall and Spring.
Thanks racerone!! Funny how it runs great for 30 miles on plane and as soon as I throttled down it started to stall out. Maybe the abrupt stop caused something in the gas tank to unsettle? Also when I got it restarted it would rev high for a bit in neutral
My boat worked great till I got to my destination 30 miles away but when I cut the throttle approaching the dock it started to work terrible and would not accept throttle and started to stall and died. It took awhile to finally start so we could dock the boat.
I took a chance and headed back...
Thanks… the old ignition switch was a four wire that had a battery (accessories) position where you turned it counter clockwise to the accessories position. The new one (I assume a three wire) has no accessories position. The service guys I use said just turn the key to the engine on position...
My boat maintenance person replace my ignition switch but when I got the boat back it appears that it will not turn counterclockwise to battery only. There is only off and run (which energizes everything including the fuel pump etc.) Did he install the wrong ignition switch? Can you leave the...
Thanks for the advice. I will try checking the the fuel pressure as you recommended. I did notice when I had the boat out the last two times it started on the second or third short starter engagement without any fuel prepping. However I did notice a little hesitation at full throttle around 4200...
You are a good man Jim!... thanks! I hate pulling the boat out so I have been nursing it along doing what I have to do to get it running when I want to use it because it works like a charm once is starts! Season ends soon at which time the service guy will be given the qualitive info I have to...
Jimn I tried turning the key on and off a couple of times first (to turn the fuel pump on and off to get some fuel into the cylinders?)... that did not work. I cracked the throttle some and no starting... then cracked it all the way and still would not start. With it fully cracked the engine...
Cleaned the spark arrestor. Boat is still extremely hard to start. Had to pour some gas down the air intake and it finally started with a sputter. Once it ran for a few seconds it idled great and as in the past the motor ran like a top… zero issues… smooth acceleration and smooth idle.
I just...
