    mercruser 470 just both and having starter problem

    I can get the starter to go by crossing the wires but not by using the key not sure where to start maybe the solenoid or is there anything that will stop me from turning over the motor like has to be in neutral?

    Just both this outboard and was out with it and at top end it seamed like the motor propeller just stopped turning slowed down and it was fine but did it again so took it home just wandering where to start to see what is wrong ? would there be a bad gear in side ?
