I posted an earlier question about excess fuel going into the carb, but I've tracked down the deeper problem. Fuel (maybe mixed with some water) is squirting out of the intake manifold nipple. That travels up a hose that goes to the primer syringe and tees off to a nipple on the top of the carb...
After further investigation, I've discovered that fuel is squirting out of the primer hose because it is coming from the hose coming from the intake manifold, which tees with the hose coming from the primer. So maybe the reeds? Maybe something worse?
Hi all,
New to outboard repair and I have some naive questions about how carbs work. There are two gas(?) lines that connect to the carb. There is small hose that comes from the primer syringe and connect to a small nipple at the top of the carb (#26 on the image below). When the engine is...
I’m getting a film of oil on and around my carburetor. I replaced the needle valve and seat and float. I adjusted the float so that it is basically parallel to the carburetor housing when held upside down. The needle seems to seat well, because if I hold the carburetor upside down and blow air...
OK, I now found that there is warm water dripping out of the lower cowling. Would an exhaust leak be related to excess oil covering things inside the engine (like unburnt oil condensing on things), or is this unrelated?
There is fuel and oil film in the carb throat and in the bottom of the engine area. There's also often a sheen of oil around the outboard. And she floods pretty easily. But otherwise, starts easy and runs pretty well. But it's quite smoky and smells of gas. Can you help me diagnose the problem...
Would the impeller influence the fuel mixture? I'll add replacing it and checking the compression to my list of things to do. (New to me outboard. Going through the list.)
It's a Johnson J25RSSE pull start. I pump the syringe on the front of the engine twice and leave it on the red ring. Add throttle and pull. When cold, it usually starts on the 2nd pull. I very quickly have to push the syringe plunger back in or it doesn't stay at a reasonable RPM.
When hot, I...
