2012 150hp Mercury Optimax Oil 10gal Reservoir swelling

As the title says, my 10gal reservoir is swelling while running. It swelled to the point of cracking :(. I’m not getting any warning lights. My VesselView shows normal temps and I have good flow from the pee stream. I’ve read that the vent could be the issue, but I don’t see any obvious vent line issues. What is best to diagnose the issue? Thanks for your help!!

should be a pressure relief in the tank check to make sure its working those motors use crankcase pressure to pump oil.
I don't know anything about the engine but for a designer to put a pressure relief valve on a plastic tank meant that under certain conditions the pressure could rise high enough to do what you said. Makes sense to me. I'd be installing a new valve in a new tank....or the new tank probably comes with one.

So the questions are: Is the system design such that overpressure occurs often, or is this a safety measure for something elsewhere in the engine system might fail causing the over pressure......someone on here in that business would have that answer!

Mercury has used that system for years on their oil injected motors. Even the carbed motor used it so its a good reliable system but these tanks are getting older nothing is new forever.

I had 2 oil injected 2 stroke Mercury's and the oil tank was under the engine cowl and held about 3 quarts of oil when full. Didn't have a pressure relief valve and certainly wasn't 10 gallon.

Actually I may have had 3....a 1988 115 I6 with a small external tank, no tank in the engine compartment and 2002 90 and 115 Loopers with self contained tank as described. I bought the I6 new and the others used. Recalling.....best I can...since it was so long ago, I think toward the end of my ownership I had some kind of problem with the external tank but it wasn't pressure.
