1972 100 hp Evirude Starflite misfires at high speed

1972 100 hp Evinrude Starflite starts misfiring at high speed and will continue misfiring at any speed until it cools down.

Remove flywheel.----Remove distributor cap and rotor.----Clean internals of cap / rotor.----Inspect anti-reversing spring.----Check rubber boots at distributor cap.-----Plug wires screw into the cap.-----Install rotor with tab in correct position.----torque flywheel.-----Test run.

I can just unscrew the spark plug wires and they’ll disconnect from the distributor cap? I don’t need a special tool?

It’s definitely improved, but I only cleaned off the wires. what’s the best way to clean in the distributor? Can I spray a little gumout?

Yes, it was pitted so I replaced it

The surface of some magnets? wasn’t smooth like the others. So I replaced. I don’t have pictures. It was picked up as metal recycling.
I think I would jlike to try cleaning the plug connections at the distributor for the spark plug wires.

The magnets on that flywheel have nothing to do with spark.----They function with the stator to charge the battery.

That makes sense, but I’m still trying to figure out how to clean the sockets that the spark plug wires screw into. Any suggestions?

No need to clean them.---Or maybe a Q-tip and soapy water if you insist,
