Stickey tiller handle throttle.

I have a new to me 1960 Mercury 9.8 with a sticky tiller throttle twist grip. I disconnected it from the spark advance plate and everything worse freely. The advance plate moves but is really tight. I've cleaned and greased all the joints in the linkage. I pulled the flywheel and put penetrating fluid under the advance plate and let it soak. Then cleaned it up and it was better. Then I lightly greased the top and bottom of the advance plates and now it will move from stop to stop but still seems to tight to me. Any thoughts on anything I missed? I'm not real familiar with outboard so if there is anything I'd appreciate the advice. Thanks in advance.
