Good morning i have a 98 40 hp mercury elpt dropped lower unit replaced impeller and also replaced cables i am a rookie had help now my help is gone.when i dropped the lower i had to disconnect jam nut on shift shaft put new impeller in put back together put new cables on boat adjusted idle boat runs great in forward .reverse grinds like the dickens do i have to redrop lower unit to and start over and if i do how do i check to make sure shaft lines with gears sorry if i'm not using correct boat terms just learning any help will be appreciated before i take to shop and get a big bill
