2005 115 2 stroke overheats at idle

Hi, I have a 115 that overheats at idle. It is fine at anything just above idle to WOT. The impeller and thermostats are new. I pulled the thermostats and let it idle while in lake. The heads stayed cold, so it seems the water is circulating as it should.
any ideas?
Also, I was going to take out a temperature sensor. How are they installed in the head? I was reluctant to just pull on the tan wire, afraid I would break it. Thanks
 
Was impeller housing sealed properly? Water tube upper seal inspected before installing the l/u? Was the housing replaced "entire kit"not just impeller changed?? Highly recommended!! A worn housing will cause this issue at idle. Pull spark plugs,see if they are steam cleaned, Grounding that tan wire to block while running should produce an alarm

I have always done my own general maintenance on my engines. But, for the first time, I paid a shop to replace the impeller and stats. I needed the boat ready for a tournament. They were supposed to install a complete kit, but who knows. I was miffed that they charged me 2.5 hrs labor to install the stats. Literally a 10 min job. Yes, my plugs seemed very clean. But they have less than 5 hours on them.
 
If plugs are super white no tan deposits on them,water could be entering combustion chambers,try a compression test to eliminate a bad head gasket,all plugs removed,ignition disabled,fully charged battery,cranking at 200-300 RsPM,take more than 1 reading on each cylinder
 
I would assume the shop did a shotty job and did not replace with a full kit, Plus there is an air bleed in that housing that must never get sealant on it. And I have seen those gooped the hell up by certified mechanics. That air bleed is very important for the low idle pumping. did the engine have this issue before the work? if not then take it back if it is within there workmanship warranty 2.5 hrs,,,,to do a stat... on that engine is robbery. Most shops charge by the hour even if the job takes 15 min. 1hr would be th max I would pay. GL
 
Update on this. Shop wanted to charge more to diagnose. So, I flushed the engine, replaced the stats that they supposedly replaced and all is well.

YIKES!!!!
And your experience is exactly why I try and do as much of my own work as a I possibly can. There are too many people that do shoddy work and charge a fortune...not just boats but autos, contractors, etc. I'm lucky that I have a good boat shop that I trust and if I'm too busy I can give them the work. But still, I like to save the money when I can.
