50 hp mercury won't start on new spark plugs

I've got a 50 hp mercury 1979 model. Right before winter last year I had it out on the water and the fuel pumps gave out had to pump the primer bulb to make it open up. well took it home and 2 weeks later the procraft boat got destroyed. So I pulled the motor and put it in my shop. I bought a smokercraft 172 fazer and installed the 50. Well I tried to fire it up and first crank I got a hit and then it knocked the crap out of me trough the key switch. I stopped right there and disaembled the motor and did the water pump carburators and rewired the harness on the motor. ( nothing but dust and wire) . I tested my stator and it tested good ohm it and tested peak. The motor will run when you clean the old plugs. It will start on a dime. But if you shut it off it won't start back up. But I've got a new battery on it today and no change no kill wire no charging circuit I've got a new cdi and trigger on the way. The starter isn't dragging. I'm not sure what else I could be missing. Any ideas. Thanks.

Oh and the compression is 130 128 128 125

No insult meant.

A customer of mine did that and his Motor acted similarly to yours. Easy to do, and just touching the battery cable is enough.
