Aq151c or aq171c wanted please!

This is my first post in a long time, so lmk if I'm posting in the wrong section?!

In desperate need of replacement engine(s), any line on one with decent compression is worth a case of beer! ;)

Can anyone even suggest another website for me to look? I have tried eBay and Craigslist and had no luck. Is there a boating website which gets more traction?

I hear you re changing power plant and I have fully considered it, but I'd love to replace what I have, all the other guys on the lake moan about fuel costs with v8's, while I chug on by the 2.3l aq crowd, sipping away... plus, more importantly, I'm familiar with the engine and have a lot of money in engine specific upgrades.

whom is Richardo? fingers crossed he owns a wrecking yard?! ;)
 
The block is a little taller for the 151 and 171. The connecting rods are the same and the pistons are shaved on the bottom to clear the crank due to the longer stroke. I allways wondered why you couldnt justshave the bottom off of the 131 pistons to clear the counterweights on the crank. The height from the center of the pin to the top of the piston is the same as well.

Not fully true although I appreciate you taking the time to comment on the thread and hopefully aid me on my search! FYI The block is the "same" whether it be a 151 131 171 or a b230 car engine, however, the crank, pistons and rods are different in the 151 and 171 taking the displacement from 2.3 to 2.5l

Those are the 131 pistons the 151 and 171 are a lower profile piston no longer made. $500-$1000 each if you can find them. The block is pretty much the same with a longer stroke. I am in the middle of a 131A rebuild and gonna run me around $2500 or more I am waiting for the crank and main bearings.
Stroke AQ131 3.150 inches and stroke for the 151 and 171 is 3.386 only 11 cubic inches more in displacement with a long winded cam.

Thank you also for aiding my search and keeping an ear to the water for me! BUT, the price I quoted is indeed for wiseco aq171 1os pistons and rings, you can find them! I did! I'd imagine you're paying $500-1000 a piston via some sort of reseller?! Beware...

personally though, if you're doing a 131 and I've done many, I'd just take a trip to the local pick your part (car junk yard), find a Volvo 740, 940 or 240 with the lowest mileage and a rear end collision (to tell you the engine was still fine) and for $250 out the door with a 'new' b230 engine you could do this 10 times and still be better off than your $2500 rate. This is what I did until I found that there is no replacement for displacement and dohc + 16 valves...

fingers crossed for an engine to fall into my lap! lol
 
Hell, you could even buy a $1000 running car, take it on a test drive, check the compression and drive it to your boat, before taking out the engine, putting the bad one in it and calling for the junk yard to haul your car away, you'd get 500-750 back from them that day!

You don't have to go to a V8... a V6 would also work. Besides.... High fuel comsumption is not an inherent issue with V8 engines... it's when the owners start doing V8'y type things, bigger boats, lots of folks, zooming around with the wind in their face... For a given era/technology of engine, the fuel consumption is directly related to the horsepower extracted. I replaced my boat's original (1969) 283CID 185HP 4BBL raw water cooled engine, with a new (2006) 350CID 260HP 2BBL "fresh" water cooled engine and my fuel comsumption dropped (at same mph cruise) from 10+ gal per hour to just over 6 gal/hr. Boat used to have a 30 mph top, now has 40 mph top, but I still run cruise in the 22 to 25 mph range. These days, modern engines do better in lbs of fuel used per HP extracted, especially with "fresh" water cooling, 160+ T'stats and fuel injection. Soooo... don't think that putting a bigger displacement engine will automatically mean more fuel burn. BTW, the 10+ gph fuel burn of 1969 engine was not due to the age of the engine and condition. The observed fuel burn coincided exactly with the original fuel burn ( gph vs RPM) curve published for the engine when new.
