Changing a vro fuel pump to a normal fuel pump

Hi everyone:
I have an Evinrude 1990 50 hp ve50belesr outboard. It ran fine last year. I started it up and it ran for awhile then stalled. It hasn't started since. I changed fuel, changed the fuel filter and checked the plugs. It has good spark but no gas. I have rebuilt both carb's. I am still not getting any fuel to the carb's. The existing fuel pump is a vro pump. I had problems with the vro and am not using it. I haven't used it for a few years. I currently mix my gas and oil. Is it possible to change the fuel pump from a vro to a normal pump? I can't afford a new vro pump. If the change is possible, will it cost much and is it difficult? I really need your help. I noticed on a normal fuel pump there is a gasket that goes to a cylinder. What cylinder? Thank you!

This is elegantly simple.---You order a fuel pump and gasket for a 2 cylinder 48 HP model or a 2 cylinder " commercial " model of about the same year.---The place to install it is already on the side of the top cylinder.---Some hose work required and you plug the VRO pulse port.

Ok, I checked out the top cylinder and I think I found the right spot. I haven't ordered anything yet but I have a question. I noticed that the pump shows only two holes and the gasket has three holes. I noticed on the cylinder that it has two holes and a third (middle) has a screw. I think that it is the right location. The fuel pump assembly does not show the back side of the pump. What is the screw (third hole in the middle) for? Pulse or something else? I am not stupid but want to make sure I do things right. My wife says if I can't fix it, get rid of it, which I don't want to so I can fish. Thanks again, Rich

More problems. I checked my vro fuel pump and apparently it is working. I sprayed starter fluid into both carbs and it still won't start. I checked the spark again and both cylinders have spark. What the heck is going on. Does anyone have a suggestion. I did rebuild both carb's, changed the filter and so on. This really has me stumped.

Guess ?

The ignition is firing sparks.

You are putting in gasoline.

Timing of the spark is at the wrong time in the cycle. ? The gasoline is NOT GOOD ENOUGH ?

only 2 options I know of

Okay. The gas is new. How do I check the timing. I took the carb's off again to make sure they are alright. I will be gone for a week and I will try again.
Thanks for the suggestions. Rich

Best test is to mix up 50 to 1 ratio in a tank & use a squeeze bulb to prove that the carbs & engine are really O K. Simple to do. Simply suck fuel out of the tank & squeeze bulb it into the fitting on the engine.

Bad squeeze bulb ? It can get hard & still block fuel flow. Had that happen when using a spare bulb & lines to empty out a old 300 gallon gas tank. The crud & rust in the tank jammed the check valves.......no fuel was being pumped.
Pull a line off 1 carb inlet. Pump the bulb. It should really spurt out nicely.

NEVER EVER trust any supposed starting fluid.

There are NO...NO quality specifications for any of them.........Stick to the quality of gasoline........more reliable results.

The carb's are getting plenty of gas so the bulb is fine. I can see the gas going in the fuel filter.

I pulled the hose off the vro pump to the carb's and the gas is flowing. I checked both carb's gas bowls and there is gas in both of them.
