Mercruiser sterndrive gear oil bottle

I've just noticed that the Max level of the gear oil shown in the supply bottle to my Mercruiser Bravo 111 Sterndrive has suddely increased in the bottle and is now over flowing, anyone know why this might be happening ? JHjacko

Reservior bottle overfilled at last service not leaving room for overflow? Yes? Drain enough from the OD to the proper level.

No? Drain a little from the OD. May have water intrusion. If the reservior oil is not the same color as the drained sample; water is in the OD and a reseal is in order. Don't wait.

Mine did something similar. It actually built up pressure in the bottle. I had already scheduled to have the impellar replaced so went ahead with that and my mechanic said the seals around the impellar were gone too. So he replaced the seals and impellar and all is good now.

oil floats on top of water. open lower drive plug examine for water ...condition..
