I cannot find a correct parts list for these engines.
None of them actually show the unit mounted in back between the 6 coils.
Like this page, but no pages actually show the big box in back behind the cover:

It's the Micro ignition thing or something like that.
This engine is missing the model# plate so not sure which it is other than its older than my 1999.
It has a switchbox (which Yamaha calls a:)
http://www.marineengine.com/newparts/part_details.php?pnum=CDI117-6G5-12

The pulse coils go to switchbox AND to the micro unit, 2 sets of wires.

Also, looking at around 1989 the pics show the unit BUT then where the rect/reg is mounted there is NO switchbox. Like this is a bastard engine??

Thanks

Yamaha's do not use a switch box.

The brains of the motor is referred to as the CDI assembly. All of the components that are used on the motor can be found at the Yamaha parts catalogs.

For instance zcdi.jpg

Wiring diagrams are in the applicable service manual.

Umm yea but your missing what I'm saying.
In the pic you posted where the rect is, on this engine there is in fact
a box that looks like a switchbox on Merc's.
As I posted the pic of this device which Yamaha is calling a Yamaha 6 Cylinde Ignition Pack
is installed in this engine.

The illustration that I posted shows the CDI assembly, not the rectifier/regulator. The CDI is what Mercury calls their switchbox.

If the motor has been modified from the Yamaha configuration how is the Yamaha wiring diagram going to be showing the modified configuration?

You are correct. I am missing something.

None of them actually show the unit mounted in back between the 6 coils. The Yam parts catalog does.

Trying again.

If someone has modified the motor, and there is no documentation that describes the modifications, then all bets are off. I don't know of a way to get there from here.

In the pic you are posting, behind that cover is a rect., on top,
below that is this ignition pack (which I'm telling you is not shown on any drawing but it appears to be manufactured this way)
and in back of engine is a CDI
