Wiring loom(resistor)problem Mercruiser 228

Problem was engine would turn over and fuel was reaching carburettor but would make no attempt to start. Not even a kick. Mechanic checked electrics and could not find any fault. He then hot-wired ignition, battery to coil+ and engine started immediately. He was of the opinion that a hard to find resistor had failed in the wiring loom. There was a brown wire emerging from the wiring loom at rear top of engine which ran to a small unit with a red button also top of engine towards rear and referred to as a circuit breaker in my handbook. This wire ran to a terminal on the circuit breaker to which it was fastened by a nut. Mechanic disconnected the wire from CB and lengthened it and connected it to + of coil. Engine now starts and runs perfectly. My query is will there be any side effect/problem in the future with this repair. Thanks in advance for any help.

Sorry should have said "resistance" and of course wire battery to coil was removed before proceeding further. Jackman
