Wire mesh filter in the muffler/air box on 225

Took my 225 air box off today and glanced inside.... the wire mesh filter in there was fairly gunked up..... it must have been restricting the air flow to some extent.

I separated the two air box halves, removed the filter and gave it a good clean in thinners - it's now sparkling.

I guess it's on the service list, but if not, it's worth having a look at.

The mesh is typically referred to as a spark arrester......in the event of a combustion event in the intake (backfire). Honda calls it a "flame trap". Not sure if the muffler reference is for the backfire containment or for noise but when I run the twins without it the sound is definitely louder.

Check your crankcase vent system to make sure there isn't excessive oil passing to intake due to high crankcase pressure. The screen catches the oil and the oil catches particulates from the air causing the "loading" on the screen.
