Which oil filter

I have a 1977 318 Chrysler mar

I have a 1977 318 Chrysler marine motor. I was told it needed a fram PH43 by one person and told it needed a fram PH 8 by another. I couldn't tell what was on the boat when we purchased it; it was generic. Which is correct?

Those two are fairly similar and both should work IF the threads and gasket areas are correct.

"My understanding is those two, along with the PH 977A are all the same dia., thread, & gasket size, The difference is the length / capacity. That being said, I always opted for the PH 977A (1.5 qt. filter) if I have the clearance, car, truck, or boat.
All are recommended Chrysler filters."
