What type of lower unit oil for 1955 Evinrude.

Hello all. I have a 1955 Evinrude big twin 25, model number 25920-13921. Over the vent screw it says to use hapoid oil only, and I am wondering what kind. Will 90w work? I think the brand is starbrite. Also, where is the lower vent screw!! I can’t find it. Thanks in advance!!

You can get the marine outboard hypoid gearoil at walmart around here and no regular gearoil will just foam up from the high speed of the gears.

look for the drain screw underneath the front of the lower unit.-----------Alway fill the lower unit from bottom till oil comes out the top vent screw.

Dont pull out the phillips screw that is the shifter pivot pin and can be a bitch getting back in. The drain plug has the large flat tip head. Get a couple new nylon washers for the drain and vent screws.
