"1974 Mercury 650 65hp 3 cylin

"1974 Mercury 650 65hp 3 cylinder outboard motor.
There is a long rubber hose that is attached to the lower back side of the sound attenuator and runs to the back of the motor and exits out the back, just under the water outlet. What is the purpose of this tube as it appears to not be attached to anything (except for the back of the sound attenuator).

I found mine has broken in half and I want to rule it out (or in) as to my recent running issues.

"Thanks, I replaced the hose and my loss of power issues vanished so it has to do something, I am guessing it is either an air intake for higher RPM? or it is an outlet for gases that may gather in front of the carbs. Either way I replaced it and I am back in the water."
