Weird idle and voltage regulator issue Yammy 115

engine starting not wanting totake throttle and idling very rough. After a couple visits by mobile mechnic, finally figured out if we disconnect the voltage regultor the motor runs perfect.

So i replaced the voltage regulator. Guess what ?? same issue. Mechanic is stumped.

What model and what year two stroke is this?

2002 yamaha Xl shaft. 115 HP

Was the input to the R/R disconnected, was the output from the R/R disconnected, or both?

Only one plug going into the voltage regulator. Only one plug into the IAC as well as the throttle position sensor. eachbwas disconnected and reconnected and only the voltage regulator made any difference on the engine.

RR is the rectifier regulator. Some RRs have separate input and output connectors. Not knowing your particular model I was having to guess.

I am presuming that you disconnected the six pin connector to the R/R.

Leave that connector attached and then disconnect the single pin red wire connector. See what happens.
