Water stream

I put a new water pump in my 2022 150 hp 4 stroke Mercury. I have never run it using a hose, but should the water stream sputter at idle or should it be a solid stream? I can't really remember what it looked like last season when it was in the water.

I'm not familiar with that motor specifically, but I tell people the stream should be fairly steady, and it may also discharge in phase with the engine's cadence.
