Water pump, replace when

I have seen mention of people replacing water pumps on a routine basis kinda like preventive maintenance. Do you recommend that? How often do you do that? Or do you just replace the impeller sometimes and not the whole pump?

Mercury 40hp '97 and also a 2019 Yamaha 115hp

A new impeller about every 5 years is a golden rule.----Testing the overheat warning horn once a season is a good idea.-----Wait some older motors do not have a warning horn.----Many small motors do not have a warning horn.
