Water pump oil seals in '64 Mercury 110 9.8 hp

I have a 1964 Mercury 110 9.8 hp motor. I'm replacing the impeller, and a mechanic suggested replacing the 2 oil seals on the water pump since I have it apart. According to my Clymer manual, it appears that these seals have probably been loctited. They don't want to come out. They actually look like they're in pretty good condition, and the water pump looks almost new itself (may have been replaced recently, this is a "new" motor for me so I don't know). Is there a good way to remove these seals, if necessary?

Just whack at them with a long metal rod, a little bit on each side, and they'll fall out.
