Water pump - drive shaft question

Help please - I have a 1989 Evinrude 110 HP, I installed a new water pump kit, I can turn the drive shaft by hand about a 1/4" before it catches the impeller, is this normal ?

​Yes that is the wedge on the flat of the shaft moving. Perfectly normal.
