Hi all,

Johnson 1975 6 hp.

Changed out impellor everything went smooth.

I now have some water drips coming out at gear shift shaft. Just easy drips now spray. This is the first time I run the engine this season by way of a barrel test. The motor runs just fine. The water pump is doing its job. I do not recall the water the drips last season. I don't know. Water tube leaking? Power head gasket gone bad? Symptom of something else? Your inputs would be most appreciated at this time.

Well sure, the powerhead gasket will probably be torn and need replacement. But there is something more vital that I am a fanatic about. There is a carbon seal assembly on the top end of the drive shaft. As said, that seal is vital. It prevents water from entering the powerhead through the lower crankshaft bearing, which will slowly destroy the engine if it happens. Removing the powerhead forces you to inspect that seal and deal with any deficiencies. Make sure it is 100% good condition, and always replace the 303347 o-ring and 303355 gasket (parts of the seal). Cheap insurance.
