water circulation problem 1988 100 hp Mariner

I have replaced the impeller, the wear plate, the gaskets, the tube between the pump and water tube, and the key that goes on the driveshaft but still cannot get the telltale to show signs that the water is circulating.

the motor starts and runs but I am afraid to run it or shift it into gear without seeing evidence that water is circulating.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Poke around the tell tale with a bit of strimmer cable ,it might be as simple as a plugged tell tale

been there, done that, have two t shirts. I've even taken a piece of hose and attached it to the fitting on the water jacket side and used a hose to reverse flow the entire system. I get water coming out of the exhaust area of the prop. I do believe my next step is to take the lower unit back off and stuff a 3/8 hose up the water tube and run it at full blast to see if it circulates through to the telltale.

did the above and after 30 seconds or so of running water I got a stream out of the telltale. I guess that after sitting so long the water jacket was empty and it takes a while to move a gallon of water through it with the impeller.

Should not take more than 5 seconds for water at the tell tale with boat in the water.
