"My Dad gave me this a few wee

"My Dad gave me this a few weeks ago and I just got around to tinkering with it. I believe it is a 1974 made by Clinton Motors. Good news is I got it running, bad news is I think water pump is not working. Can anyone tell me if this motor is water cooled??? I think it is, but the only thing coming out of the ports is oil...could they be plugged or something else wrong??? Oh..it runs for about 15-20 minutes and then stops...when I checked it, the lower unit was very hot."

"I also relaced the fuel line

"I also relaced the fuel line from the gas can to the motor. The original was 1/4", I replaced it with 5/16", will that be a problem or with that work?? (it runs with the larger hose, but when I squeezed the bulb, i notice excess fuel spraying from the carb....??)"

I'll try to answer some of your questions.
I don't know that much about Clinton motors,
even though I have one. It is a true "Basket
Case". My Wifes exhusband left it in the garage
attic in pieces in a box.I have'nt done any thing with it yet.
The Clinton I have is air cooled. If it has
cooling fins on the cylinder & head it is air cooled.
Some air cooled motors have a water pump to cool
the lower leg and exhaust housing.
You need to check the oil/grease in the lower unit.
The bigger fuel line should be OK.
The fuel coming from the carb could be the float needle valve is not closing when the bowl is full, witch could be flooding the motor causing it to stall. You need to rebuild the carb.
If it is air cooled you need to use regular
2 cycle oil. I think it handles higher temperature better.
If you don't get better answers here try the
Antique Outboard Motor Collectors club web site.

Good Luck with your motor!
