I have a 24’ Airslot with a 350 motor and a Volvo 270 SP outdrive. I have a 280 DP in great condition, it came out of a boat with a diesel. I have done quite a bit of research on the forums and it seems like I can swap the lower unit from the 280dp onto the 270 without any issues.
My concern is I have read on forums that this is possible but haven’t found one where some actually did it. The gear ratio in my 270 is 1:61 I know the 280dp either is the 1:95 or the 2:30.
Can I make this swap? And if so, is the gear reduction too large for the 350? Am I going to be losing lots of overall speed with the lower gearing?
Am I nuts? Haha. Thanks for any help here!
