Volvo 270...reverse only...HELP!

Hey guys...I have a volvo 130hp motor with a 270 outdrive...took her out on the lake and only had reverse...She revs up when I put in the forward position but thats all...where do i start? thanks

1)Remove the back cover on the drive ( remove lower screw and just back out to top screw about 5 to 10 turns...) cover removes by pulling out on the bottom and tipping it up and out.

2) With engine off, observe the shift cable while someone shifts from N to Rev and Fwd. Regardless of prop rotation, the shift cable end should extend when shifting into forward.

The usual failure (especially if the cable does not extend) is the absence or improper installation of the clamp plate that secures the jacket of the shift cable to the housing of the stern drive at the point where it enters the drive.
