You don't know what to believe on the internet.
I came across a discussion touting the merits of using vinegar to remove hard water deposits; calcium, magnesium, etc. A hose end sparyer with a siphon tube was used to inject vinegar into the hose going to muffs.
Even if it did, what would be effects on the cooling system and engine.?
Aluminum doesn't like acids either.
However, if it did work and didn't harm the engien, it would be an inexpensibe way to keep the system clean.

I don't know where you live, but I've worked in a salt-water area outboard dealership shop for 24 years and have never seen any significant build-up of calcium, magnesium, etc deposits. Salt---well of course. But plain old H2O WATER is the solvent for salt. Why make it complicated? That other stuff you see in there is oxidized aluminum. When you find something that removes that without damaging the good aluminum, let me know and we'll both get rich.
