Ive been running a Tohatsu M30A3 for a very long time now. The engine still runs like a top and likely has in excess of 3000 hours on it since new. While it is a great engine, im at a point in my life where I am ready to abandon the smoke and noise of this engine for a more refined boating / fishing experience.
My question for the group is this: will a comparable 4 stroke 30hp tohatsu deliver similar power characteristics as the 2 stroke or should I go up to a 40? The 30 hp 2stroke is at the very limit of its power with 3 aboard(very rare) however it is adequate and most of my time is spent trolling for salmon at 2-3mph. Thoughts?
