trim tilt not working

My 03 Mercury 40 hp 2-stroke sat up about a year. i kept a trickle charge on both batteries and put the big charger on a few days ago. won't crank but that's another story. All electric equipment worked fine. trim went down fineyesterday. Today I went to let it up and nothing. It won't work at the shifter or motor, but I hear a faint ticking sound at the motor. Would this probably be a connection somewhere?
