Tracker Mercury 50 HP 4-stroke warning buzzer sounds during slow troll

The warning buzzer on my lightly used Model Year 1999 Mercury (Tracker) Model 50ELPT45 50 HP 4 stroke sounds when I'm trolling slowly. My understanding is that the warning buzzer sounds if the engine overheats or low oil pressure is detected. The dealer changed the thermostat and a strong stream of water exits the engine, so I'm guessing that the cooling system is sound. The oil level in the engine is full.
If the alarm sounds, I turn off the engine. If I let it sit for a minute, turn it on, and resume my slow troll, the alarm reliably sounds again after 75 seconds of trolling. If I start to move "at speed" after I turn the engine back on, the alarm will not sound.
Does anyone have any ideas on what might be the problem? This behavior started last summer.
Thanks for your input!
