Took lower unit off and prop spins freely?? Out of gear???

Hey everyone, I took my lower unit off my 81 Johnson 140 j140tlcim to replace water pump. I put it in reverse before removing but I just realized with the lower unit off the prop spins freely as if it’s in neutral. Did I accidentally shift it out of reverse??? If so how do I put it back in reverse? Push shift rod up or down?? Sorry new to this

Actually it does not matter.----And there is nothing wrong.----Do not turn the shift rod.----Check the shift rod height adjustment and re-assemble.--You MUST do that step.----Yes the rod pulled UP when you removed the lower unit.----That put it into nuetral.
