Think i might have wrong props on boat

hello again i have a 1978 25 f

hello again i have a 1978 25 foot skipjack with twin volvo penta aq140 finally got to take here out but when i finally got the boat to plane rpms were about5000 rpms i read that if i changed props it would drop rpm and still be able to planecould the the asnswer or should i look elsewere if it is props what size pitch should be on the boat??????please help props are expensive and dont want to waste money

then get a shop tach and verify the accuracy of yours before changing props

You should pick props that provide the recommended WOT full rpm range.

If your rpm's are at 5000 and the boat is just getting on plane, I suggest you have serious slippage.
either props ventilating behind the hull's displacement, or hubs slipping, or cone clutches in drive slipping"

"Make a punch in the prop hub and another one aligned with the previous one on the prop, then install the prop and run the boat. If after the test the marks don't line up any longer, then you know the prop is spinning on the hub."
