"Hello,
First post. I have a 1971 or 1972 Mercruiser. It is a in-line 4, 120 hp and believe it is a 2.5L motor. I looked for a thermostat for it last year since it is missing. Temp gauge will go up if you work it hard. Went to NAPA and thought I got the right one. Did not fit. Either I am not looking in the right spot for the thermostat or I had the wrong one. Any help would be great.

Thanks"

Thanks for the help. I went to Napa again and ordered the two that may work in the motor. The smaller of the two is the right one. It is a 140 degree therostat. Most likely the one previously stuck open or closed so they removed it. I could see replacing it every couple years to ensure proper operation.
