Thermostat Cover

Trying to remove the thermostat covers on '95 175 Johnsons.........
Either PO or his mechanic must have put some type of sealant on the threads......cant break them free w/o ruining the cover.
Anyone else run into this problem before? Am I going to be forced to cut them off?
 
I always used a hand held propane torch to heat the aluminum area surrounding the steel bolt. This results in having the aluminum expand before the steel bolt does which helps free the bolt. Tapping the head of the bolt sometimes helps also.

Yeah, there are still some idiots out there that rather than using a little grease or never-seize to prevent having the bolt or screw from seizing, they dab Loc-Tite on everything, thinking the engine will fall apart without it.
