testing alarm BF 90

How could I test my overheat alarm on my 2001 BF 90. I grounded the temp sensor near spark plugs and red overheat light comes on but no audible alarm, should it? I removed alarm and tested it on a battery and it works fine. All wires/connections look like new, no corrosion. What triggers the alarm. It is not overheating, I just want to make sure it is working.

There are two in the cylinder block water passage (part #2) http://www.boats.net/parts/search/Honda/Outboard Engine/2001/BF90A1 LRTA/CYLINDER BLOCK/parts.html

and two in the head under the intake manifold (part #1) http://www.boats.net/parts/search/Honda/Outboard Engine/2001/BF90A1 LRTA/CARBURETOR/parts.html

There is no regular time schedule in the manual to change them. In fresh water, they should last a long time. I usually see the ones in the intake when I do a carb job, and I have never seen one that needed changing yet. If the motor is used in salt water.....that is most likely a different matter.

You are awesome man. I asked these 2 questions to 2 different dealers, Honda Canada, and 4 different boating forums and nobody could answer them. Thanks again.
